The European Union, under its Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria (EU-SDGN) Programme, announces the successful conclusion of two significant conferences aimed at promoting inclusivity and peacebuilding in Nigeria.
The first conference brought together women, youth, and persons with disabilities, focusing on their vital roles in democratic governance. This event provided a platform for these groups to voice their concerns, share experiences, and develop strategies for increased participation in Nigeria’s democratic processes. Discussions centred on removing barriers to inclusion, enhancing political representation, and empowering these key demographics to contribute more effectively to the nation’s democratic framework.
Following this, the second conference convened leaders of Independent State-based Peace Architectures (ISPAs). This gathering was instrumental in reinforcing local peacebuilding efforts across Nigeria. Participants exchanged best practices, discussed challenges, and explored collaborative approaches to conflict resolution and peace maintenance. The conference underscored the importance of community-led peace initiatives and the role of local leaders in fostering sustainable peace.
Both events reflect the EU-SDGN Programme’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s democratic institutions and processes. By focusing on inclusivity and peace, the EU-SDGN Programme aims to strengthen democratic governance, ensuring that all voices are heard and all citizens can contribute to the country’s development.
The European Union remains steadfast in its support for Nigeria’s democratic journey, recognising that a robust and inclusive democratic system is essential for sustainable development and peace.
