In an effort to promote inclusivity and accessibility in the electoral process, the European Union-Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria (EU-SDGN) Cohorts have undertaken a comprehensive assessment to gauge the compliance and effectiveness of the use of assistive devices for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the 2023 Off-Cycle Elections.

As part of their commitment to fostering an inclusive democratic environment, the EU-SDGN Cohorts have initiated a thorough examination of the implementation of assistive devices to facilitate the participation of Persons with Disabilities in the ongoing off-cycle elections.

The EU-SDGN Cohorts have assessed the deployment and distribution of assistive devices such as Braille-enabled voting machines, ramps, and other accessibility tools across electoral precincts.

The assessment also includes a meticulous examination of the physical accessibility of polling stations to ensure they are equipped with ramps, tactile paths, and other features to facilitate easy access for voters with disabilities.

This assessment aims to identify successes and challenges in the implementation of assistive devices, fostering an environment where every eligible voter can exercise their democratic right.

As the assessment unfolds, the EU-SDGN Cohorts remain dedicated to advancing inclusivity in electoral processes, contributing to the creation of a more accessible and participatory democracy in Nigeria. The outcomes of this evaluation will inform future initiatives aimed at continually enhancing the electoral experience for Persons with Disabilities across the nation.
