The European Union Support to Democratic Governance (EU-SDGN) Programme, in collaboration with The Kukah Centre, convened a significant roundtable meeting with the national chairmen of various political parties. Held at the Ladi Kwali Hall, Abuja Continental Hotel, the event aimed to foster dialogue and cooperation among political leaders to enhance democratic governance in Nigeria.

The meeting, scheduled to start at 9:00 am, gathered top leaders from across Nigeria’s political spectrum. The Kukah Centre, as part of its Component 3 activities under the EU-SDGN Programme, facilitated the event to address critical issues affecting the country’s political landscape and to promote a culture of constructive engagement and collaboration among political parties.

The roundtable began with opening remarks from representatives of The Kukah Centre, who underscored the importance of dialogue in resolving political differences and strengthening democratic institutions. They highlighted the EU’s ongoing support for initiatives that encourage democratic governance and political stability in Nigeria.

Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on a range of topics, including electoral reforms, party discipline, internal democracy, and the role of political parties in fostering national unity and development. The chairmen of the political parties shared their perspectives on these issues, reflecting on past experiences and proposing forward-looking solutions.

A key focus of the meeting was on the upcoming electoral cycle, with participants emphasising the need for peaceful, free, and fair elections. Strategies for improving voter education, enhancing transparency in the electoral process, and preventing electoral violence were also deliberated upon.

The Kukah Centre facilitated the discussions, ensuring an inclusive environment where all voices were heard. The roundtable provided a rare opportunity for political leaders to engage in a non-partisan setting, promoting mutual understanding and cooperation.
