The European Union Support to Democratic Governance (EU-SDGN) Programme, led by its cohort member Yiaga Africa, successfully organised a Constituency Town Hall meeting with Hon Clement Ademola Akanni, the Member representing Boluwaduro/Ifedayo/Ila Federal Constituency. The event took place at Igbonnibi City Hall, Palace Square, Ila-Orangun, providing a platform for direct engagement between the electorate and their representative.
Scheduled for 9 am, the town hall meeting saw a significant turnout of constituents, civil society organisations, community leaders, and media representatives. The initiative aimed to foster transparency, accountability, and active civic participation by enabling constituents to voice their concerns and engage directly with their elected representative.
The event was inaugurated by representatives from Yiaga Africa, a cohort member of the EU-SDGN Programme, who emphasised the importance of citizen participation in democratic processes. They highlighted the EU’s commitment to supporting initiatives that enhance democratic governance and strengthen the relationship between elected officials and their constituents.
Hon Clement Ademola Akanni addressed the attendees, discussing his legislative achievements and ongoing projects within the Boluwaduro/Ifedayo/Ila Federal Constituency. He also outlined his future plans and invited constituents to share their views and suggestions on how best to address the community’s needs.
The town hall provided an opportunity for open dialogue, with constituents raising issues related to local infrastructure, healthcare, education, and economic development.
