The European Union Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria (EUSDGN) Programme, implemented by the EU-SDGN cohort members, the Nigerian Women Trust Fund, successfully conducted a Training of Trainers (TOT) on Continuous Voter Education. This event, part of Component 5a of the programme, took place from 19th to 20th June 2024 at the Protea Hotel, No. 4 Central Road, off Benin Sapele Road, Benin City, Edo State.
The training aimed to enhance the capacity of trainers to deliver continuous voter education, ensuring a more informed and active electorate. Participants included a diverse group of stakeholders, including representatives from civil society organisations, electoral bodies, and community leaders. The event underscored the EU’s commitment to promoting democratic governance and electoral integrity in Nigeria.
During the two-day training, attendees engaged in comprehensive sessions covering various aspects of voter education, including strategies for effective communication, methods to increase voter turnout, and ways to address electoral misinformation. The trainers were equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to educate and mobilise voters, fostering a more participatory and transparent electoral process.
The Nigerian Women Trust Fund, a key member of the EU-SDGN cohort, played a crucial role in organising and facilitating the training. Their expertise and dedication to enhancing women’s participation in governance and electoral processes were evident throughout the event.
This initiative is part of the broader efforts by the EU-SDGN Programme to rebuild trust in Nigeria’s electoral process and institutions. By empowering trainers with the necessary tools and knowledge, the programme aims to ensure that voter education is continuous and effective, ultimately leading to a more informed and engaged electorate.
